Robot Coding Day with Higher Horizons+

As part of our drive to inspire young people to learn more about STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) and new digital skills, we worked in partnership with Higher Horizons+ to engage with high school students as part of their Robot Coding Day at Keele University.

After some quick demos, where we demonstrated the exciting potential of coding, we unleashed learners (and some spheros) onto our course. Not only did this challenge give students the opportunity to get a better appreciation of how coding can be used to manipulate technology, but added an element of competitiveness as they fought to be the first to navigate the course.

We also had the chance to watch Sam Aaron engage with young people and show them how coding can be used to make music. Sam, the creator of Sonic Pi, is passionate about inspiring young people from Stoke-on-Trent, so we enjoyed having the chance to speak with him about what can be done to encourage more young people to get involved with tech and pursue digital skills as part of further education and training.

We enjoyed having the chance to meet so many enthusiastic students and look forward to seeing what they are able to create, and how they can use their new-found coding skills, in the future.
