What Can You Expect From Wavemaker in 2019?

While many might be slowly coming out of the post-Christmas haze, over at Wavemaker, we’ve been bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as we’ve begun to welcome in a new age of STEAM and digital engagement.

At Wavemaker HQ, 2019 marks the exciting beginning of a new adventure as a Community Interest Company (CIC) offering even more products and services relating to digital technologies.

So, what does that mean? Truthfully, we’ve kept a lot of our foundations- keeping to our core values- but we’ve expanded on our offer, getting involved with more local organisations and wider initiatives around tech and well-being.

As part of our ‘Little Waves, Big Waves’ programme, we’re connecting with more schools and local organisations, all to get young people thinking about their futures and enabling them to have the skills and ideas to achieve their ambitions. From large-scale science workshops to being a part of Stoke-on-Trent’s Opportunity Area’s ‘Essential Life Skills’ scheme, we’re connecting young people to opportunities and equipment that they might not have had the chance to experience before.

We’re also making headway when it comes to developing new ideas and influences for the students of the future as well as those who are only just beginning to learn about the technological world around them. By continuing to build and expand links with teachers, and those who are training to become them, we are helping educators to lay the groundwork for future lesson ideas and fresh ways of teaching the curriculum.

As part of DigitAll, our programme that encourages digital inclusion, skills and health, we are still working with leading organisations to leave a resounding impact on their clients and beneficiaries. Through regular workshops and interaction, we engage with people, showing them how to use the devices that they own to full effect, as well as introduce them to other tech which may be of interest. We plan to expand our work with adults of all ages, making ourselves available across a range of settings including cafes, supermarket car-parks and outside of GP Surgeries to talk to people about how they can use their technology and how it can be used to monitor health and well-being on a daily basis.

Closer to home, we will continue to work with local organisations, supporting young adults within Stoke-on-Trent to access digital skills training to enrich their future employment opportunities. We will form closer links with businesses in the area to support the residents of Stoke-on-Trent and form connections amongst other organisations that are working hard to improve the lives and prospects of those living within the city.

Following on from the success and goals accomplished in 2018, we are looking forward to the challenges ahead. We hope that you will continue to support us as we provide a service that encourages tech for good, for all.
