YMCA Go: Half-Term Fun
Anyone who’s following us on social media will have seen us advertise various activities this week- perfect for any kids with an interest in STEAM (and for anyone who’s looking after them, trying to come up with ways to keep them amused!)
Still, being a digital and STEAM engagement specialist, it was only fair we do our part in keeping young people entertained during this break. With this in this mind, we’ve paired up with YMCA to supply a workshop for YMCA Go- a project which allows young people to have the chance to experience a wide range of activities and to learn about new areas and skill-bases they may wish to pursue in the future.
This Saturday (23rd February), we’ll be hosting a group of 30 kids over at Wavemaker Headquarters. The group, made up of learners aged 11+, will have the chance to get involved with 3D printing, coding, and making music.
Not only does this session give us the chance to get involved in the community and the development of young people’s digital skills, but it helps us to test out some new workshop ideas we’ve been working on and to see how young people respond to fresh topics and challenges.
GarageBand (one part of the ‘music making’ aspect of the day) is a workshop that we have been developing and are beginning to offer as part of our STEAM sessions in schools and as part of other educational events. Using the titular app, budding musicians can access a range of instruments to create unique music and carefully construct their own songs.
The group tomorrow will have the chance to experience this modern workshop as well as offer direct feedback, which will help us to iron out any potential issues and make sure that it’s perfect for other young learners across the city.
We look forward to welcoming the YMCA group tomorrow and discovering what they can create. Make sure to keep an eye on our social media to find out how we get on.
